Turquoise Teardrops

Urbanish. The colour of earth and sky/water, whichever you prefer. I made the wiring kinda rugged for a different kind of look. Perfect with a simple crisp white blouse and a pair of denims on a sunny day out. :)

Listen to Them

When I'm not exasperated or frustrated, I remember what my little students say to me or to their peers. Funny and cute conversations happen every day during school hours.. it's just whether I'm tuned to the right frequency to listen and try not to laugh out loud. Hehe.

Today I picked up quite a few at work. Honestly, I'm amazed that I managed to, because ever since I taught the 5-year-olds, I seemed to have lost that ability. There's just so much to focus on, their work, academics and whatnot. It's so different from the year before last when I was with the 3-year-olds where academic was not of utmost importance yet ('cause they can't write at that age).. that was the year I really enjoyed listening and talking to them.

Today, 6-year-old Ethan came to me with his new books about the solar system and the universe. By the way, that's like, his utmost passion. He can tell you lots of facts about stars, planets and the universe! And so, he found out that the sun will eventually die one day and shared his discovery with me today when I was busy fussing over the other kids.

I took some time to sit down to listen to him as the other kids did their work. He opened his book and started to tell me, "Did you know that one day, the sun will explode? And then at that time it'll touch Earth."

I answered, in a panicked tone, "Oh dear, it'll touch Earth?! Then what will happen to us?!"

Ethan looked at me for a moment before giving me his answer, "Oh, we'll already be in heaven at that time!"

I thought that's a brilliant answer. :)

He then continued to tell me that the sun will not explode yet, not in dunno how many billion years before I stood up and told him that it was time to do some work.

May this joy and my pair of listening ears never depart from me.

By the Sea

I think the heat is making me creating beach-like and sea-themed accessories. I miss the rain! :( Perhaps this bluish earrings can bring some 'coolness' (for the lack of a better word. I tell you, my vocabulary is deteriorating) while the clear teardrops remind you of cool droplets of water.

E141 Bloop
Clam charm, starfish charm, clear teardrop beads, glass bicones and faceted round beads, blister pearls they're the cutest - so freeform!) on fine chain and rhodium-plated earring hooks.

I Smell Something Fishy

I like fish. No, not eat fish (though I like that too). It's the way they swim in the water, the way they swish their tails and fins, especially when they are long. Like fighting fish and veil-tailed goldfish.

I used to keep lots of goldfish. For some reason, my fish tank had some microorganisms which refused to be killed no matter what we tried.. and that was the cause of death for my goldfishies. I would disinfect it and buy fish after fish, but they still died the same death as the rest. It got too tiring and I stopped buying more after the last one died.

Fighting fishies are relatively easier to keep. They don't need those oxygen pump thingy because it's their nature to swim up to the surface to get air. I found a fighting fish breeder at the Mont Kiara flea market many years ago and bought really nice ones. But they're no longer around anymore to swish their tails and the breeder has stopped appearing at the market. :(

Sigh.. those fishy days.

Anyway, I've created new (mini) metal bookmarks to remember my love for fishies (sort of). It's a simple wirework fish and the inspiration came from a beading book that I'm currently reading.

Tada! Fishy bookmarks!

More information on these bookmarks in the next (and nextnext) posts! :D

Chunky Plunky

"You better don't play Mafia if you wear this bracelet." Sui Ling reminded me when she saw this new bracelet I created.

On my birthday last year, a group of us played Mafia at a friend's house. After many rounds of me being the civilian, I suddenly had the chance to be the mafia. When I wanted to point at somebody to 'kill' while everyone's eyes were closed, I used the wrong hand. Instead of using my bracelet-less hand, my chunky bracelet clanged and someone beside me exclaimed, "I think I know who the killer is already!"

-.- needless to say, I lost la. Thanks to my bracelet. Haha.

Never wear chunky bracelets if you want to play Mafia.

Here's my latest favourite!

Lampwork Beads

These pretty lampwork beads are from Hong Kong, according to the bead shop owner. I chanced upon these lovely turquoise lampwork beads with little white daisies on them when I was in Singapore.

I've been keeping them for some time now, not wanting to simply create something with them. I waited until I had the ultimate design in mind. Finally, they found places to belong in - in a pair of cheery earrings and a chunky plunky bracelet!

The earrings are photographed by my colleague's husband, Timothy See Thoe. :)

E43 Cheery Daisy
Imported turquoise lampwork beads, diamante rondelles, Swarovski bicones, glass bicones on round earring hoops.
RM19 (1 pair sold!)
(limited remakes)

Chunky plunky matching bracelet to be featured in the next post! :)
