I Smell Something Fishy

I like fish. No, not eat fish (though I like that too). It's the way they swim in the water, the way they swish their tails and fins, especially when they are long. Like fighting fish and veil-tailed goldfish.

I used to keep lots of goldfish. For some reason, my fish tank had some microorganisms which refused to be killed no matter what we tried.. and that was the cause of death for my goldfishies. I would disinfect it and buy fish after fish, but they still died the same death as the rest. It got too tiring and I stopped buying more after the last one died.

Fighting fishies are relatively easier to keep. They don't need those oxygen pump thingy because it's their nature to swim up to the surface to get air. I found a fighting fish breeder at the Mont Kiara flea market many years ago and bought really nice ones. But they're no longer around anymore to swish their tails and the breeder has stopped appearing at the market. :(

Sigh.. those fishy days.

Anyway, I've created new (mini) metal bookmarks to remember my love for fishies (sort of). It's a simple wirework fish and the inspiration came from a beading book that I'm currently reading.

Tada! Fishy bookmarks!

More information on these bookmarks in the next (and nextnext) posts! :D

The colours of this bracelet will remind you of fall - the green leaves turning into shades of orange and gold falling gently with the breeze onto the black dirt.

I used Pandora lampwork beads for this bracelet. Love the swirls on the glass. :)

Chunky Plunky

"You better don't play Mafia if you wear this bracelet." Sui Ling reminded me when she saw this new bracelet I created.

On my birthday last year, a group of us played Mafia at a friend's house. After many rounds of me being the civilian, I suddenly had the chance to be the mafia. When I wanted to point at somebody to 'kill' while everyone's eyes were closed, I used the wrong hand. Instead of using my bracelet-less hand, my chunky bracelet clanged and someone beside me exclaimed, "I think I know who the killer is already!"

-.- needless to say, I lost la. Thanks to my bracelet. Haha.

Never wear chunky bracelets if you want to play Mafia.

Here's my latest favourite!

Lampwork Beads

These pretty lampwork beads are from Hong Kong, according to the bead shop owner. I chanced upon these lovely turquoise lampwork beads with little white daisies on them when I was in Singapore.

I've been keeping them for some time now, not wanting to simply create something with them. I waited until I had the ultimate design in mind. Finally, they found places to belong in - in a pair of cheery earrings and a chunky plunky bracelet!

The earrings are photographed by my colleague's husband, Timothy See Thoe. :)

E43 Cheery Daisy
Imported turquoise lampwork beads, diamante rondelles, Swarovski bicones, glass bicones on round earring hoops.
RM19 (1 pair sold!)
(limited remakes)

Chunky plunky matching bracelet to be featured in the next post! :)

Chili Snowflake

Fresh and hot off the beading table! :) Hanging from the curved end of a bronze metal bookmark is a wire snowflake, made of bronze-coloured copper wire. Red glass bicones and jet black seed beads are wound at intervals, between the 'petals' of the snowflake.

I had great fun making this. Haven't used my pliers for some time.. didn't feel natural at first. But gradually, my hands began to remember how to twist and bend those wires. :)

Diameter of snowflake: 4cm
Length of dangle: 8.5cm

Chinese New Year 2010

Gong xi Gong xi!

I'm back with a rawr. Blessed Chinese New Year to all Chinese friends out there! I had a great time celebrating it in KL, seeing some of my friends and catching up with long lost ones.

My CNY celebration involved lunch at Chili's, dimsum (twice!) at SS2, 'writing' with sparklers and lots more. Here are some of the pictures taken during the CNY week.

Lunch at Chili's Midvalley

Gallivanting at Midvalley.

Dimsum with former school friends.

Watching an acrobatic lion dance at One Utama.

Enjoying CNY cookies! The one in the picture is given by one of my students. :)

Reliving my childhood - playing with sparklers! Photos by Jon Woo.

I've got ideas for new designs!

One of my students whose favourite planet is Saturn told me this today when he saw what I drew: "Aunty Wai Yee! You should draw more lines because Saturn has more than one ring around it!" Whoops. :p

Swirly heart. One of the easiest to draw. :)

Haven't been playing with it for many years.

My beads have been neglected for some time due to work. However, I have been able to come up with a few creations. Tried a bit of wirework. Pictures coming up soon!

Thank you to patrons who still ordered and purchased from me, despite my blog being inactive for a little more than two months.

Updates coming right up!

Customized Orders

Phew! I am back! :) Still got a few customized orders to complete, thought I'll keep this place updated a bit first.

Two months ago, a customer requested for these customized bookmarks with zodiac beads. Here are the results, and I'm happy that she is satisfied with the results. Thanks, Seet Mui! :)

And here are some customized orders by a customer in Singapore. :)

And then, recently, some orders for metal bookmarks. Somehow, my camera doesn't capture purple objects very well. I always have a problem with that.

Note to self:
  1. Reply e-mails
  2. Jenn, Mun and Sue's customizations

Enough Time For One Post, Maybe

Since my cousin went to the bank, she has allowed me to use her laptop for now. Yay! So I thought I'd share some of the customizations I've made recently.

I had a request to remake BK016 bookmark - remember the mermaid one with blue and green glass beads? Well, this customer requested to change it to pearls instead, and the result looks pretty grungy + sophisticated. :)

At first, I used white and grey pearls. She also requested to have more sea-themed charms than pearls.

Therefore, BK018 Rosalyn was born! However, my customer preferred all white pearls, so I removed the grey ones. It no longer looked grungy, but it exudes pure sphistication. :)

This is BK019 Rosalyn White.

Hope your friend will be happy with this bookmark, Rosalyn! :)

Being Away

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will not be able to reply any e-mails this week as I'm back in my dad's hometown in Ipoh to grieve for the passing of my beloved grandmother. I may not be able to come online as frequently. I apologize for any inconvenience caused.

To my friends who have learnt the news and texted me, I sincerely thank you for your kind words and support. :)

Cheese!

That's was my first thought when I saw this chain. Looks quirky, doesn't it? Reminds me of those cartoonish cheese with holes in them.

My colleague requested for this customized set. She could hardly keep her excitement down and asked me every day at work about her bracelet and earrings which were in the making. :p So cute la you, June!

B92 June's Cheese
Rhodium-plated and nickel free chain links with lobster clasp.

As for the earrings, June wanted something really simple and tiny.
